“Around the Shed” is a proposal for the LFA09 commissioned by Denis Charrière, Head of Culture at the Embassy of Switzerland in London. +
Around the Shed
The shed epitomizes a conceptual and physical, starting point for conducting innovative investigations in urban realms. “Around The Shed” aims firstly to open a discussion about the actual status and functions of interstitial spaces in contemporary cities. Secondly, the shed will be considered as a zero level of architecture that allows more general issues about topics related to the impact of nature in urban contexts, the role of void in densification processes or the relation between micro architectures and community identities, to be addressed. Thirdly, it will allow investigations around new contemporary notions, for example: spatial reserves, and flexible or furtive spaces.
Furthermore, by constructing an actual, physical shed in a location in London, Around The Shed will be a site specific experience that will outline the deep shifts that are currently modifying the everyday life of the city prior to Olympic Games. Around The Shed will provide a nodal point where the vernacular meets the global and the agricultural fades into ‘culture’.
