Blank Traces: Photography beyond the Visible, Bread & Books / London, 33 p., 2008
The purpose of this essay is to provide an analytic framework in which to study photographs where traces, signs, cracks or other details are events allowing to see beyond evident visibility. Therefore, the focus is on pictures singularised by what we will call blank traces. In that sense, the selected images are usually perplexing because their most significant feature is not really visible. For instance, they show empty signs like blank screens, printing errors, scrapings or other light effects that are normally considered accidental or communication failures in photographs.
